Strengths: Offensively, Douglas-Roberts’ slashing ability is one of the most creative and diverse in college basketball … This makes him a force in transition where he can finish with a number of runners, finger rolls, and floaters …These moves, coupled with his body control and long arms, enable him to convert in traffic … Earns a living on isolation plays where he can use his first step and ball handling ability to get past defenders … His dribble appears slow and loose, but it’s by actually design to set-up defenders into feeling comfortable to reach in, which then leads to his crossover hesitation or spin move to gain separation … Is comfortable slashing to the basket from either side of the basket and even utilizes the baseline for one of his floaters … Although not a long range shooter he has improved from three point range when his feet are set … Explosive scorer who has the confidence and ability to put up points in a hurry … Smooth player who plays the game effortlessly … Has become better at protecting the ball and not committing as many turnovers, which was a problem last year … Underrated passer who has decent court vision to recognize open teammates on drives … Displays great court savvy and clearly understands the game on many levels … Tough minded player who will play through pain as witnessed by the ankle he sprained during the NCAA tournament last year … Coachable player who has become much more dedicated to improving through off season workouts and gym time … Leadership skills have really blossomed this past season …
Weakness: Athletically, he is a decent athlete, but isn’t explosive with tremendous leaping ability or quickness … Needs to add more weight to his body, but there are some concerns that added weight could slow him down athletically … This lack of strength effects Douglas-Roberts on his drives to the basket where he struggles to finish after absorbing contact … Perimeter defense could hurt him on the next level due to his average lateral quickness, which prevents him from being able to keep up with athletic assignments … Needs to improve intensity level on the defensive end as he doesn’t fight through screens … While his initial separation is good enough to get into the lane, his lack of continuous explosiveness often prevents full separation and allows defenders to closely follow … Possesses 3-point range on his jump shot, but isn’t the consistent threat that his numbers would suggest … Upside isn’t very high due to his physical limitations … Could stand to fully incorporate a competent mid-range jumper as he prefers driving to the basket … Although not soft, Douglas-Roberts does not do a good job of initiating contact to get to the free throw line as much as someone with his slashing ability should … With the physical play and 82 game schedule of the NBA, Douglas-Roberts durability could be an area of concern if he isn’t able to add muscle …
