2001 NBA Draft
|
2001 Scouting Report:
Strengths: Athletic combo forward who is super quick when facing the basket in isolation ... Provided mismatches most of the time because of the fact that he was too quick for most power forwards and too big for most small forwards ... Comfortable when facing the basket where he can make the jumper from about 17 feet and in ... Has become a good free throw shooter ... Has a very good touch around the basket he is able to convert floaters and put-backs with regularity ... Can play above the rim is a threat to go for the alley-oop ... Not what you would call a power rebounder he gets the majority of rebounds by putting himself in good position ... Average defender although he does have the ability to become better ...
Weakness: Really needs to add some serious upper body muscle and weight ... Brown has a habit of falling in love with his jumper ... Has the one thing that NBA gm's hate is that he is a classic tweener doesn't have the muscle to play power forward and doesn't have the ball handling or shooting ability to play small forward ... Can have stretches during the season where he can be inconsistent although this season those moments have been less than in the past ... Below average passer who has problems recognizing double teams ...

2001 Scouting Report:
Strengths: Another one of the great shot-blockers in this years draft class thanks to his great vertical leaping ability and timing ... Has really came along this year offensively now has the ability to shoot a turnaround jump shot and has added a hook shot ... Really knows how to use his body and draw contact in the post ... Excellent rebounder definitely one of the best in the ACC conference this past year ... As mobile as you can be for a 7- foot center easily out maneuvers opposing interior players ... Has a little bit of a mean streak in him plays with a lot of fire ... Has really shown a willingness to learn this year about the fundamentals of the post ... Very athletic has an impressive 37-inch vertical and runs the floor well for a center ...
Weakness: One of the most frustrating things about Jones is that he has had bouts with inconsistency throughout his career ... Could stand to work on his release when he shoots the ball often he doesn't put enough ark into the shot ... Work ethic has come into question because of the fact Jones hasn't always been in the greatest of condition ... Has a habit to pick up dumb fouls during the game although this became less of a issue this year he could still learn how to control his body more when defending ... Post footwork still is a little choppy to say the least ... Offensive game is still growing he's just now adding more moves to his repertoire ... Not a very good free throw shooter ...
