2002 NBA Draft

amare-stoudemire 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review phoenix 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2002 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Plays basketball at it's highest in terms of intensity and aggressiveness doesn't back down from anyone ... Pure athlete very explosive has no problems dunking on defenders, and has a great motor; runs the court like a deer ... Excellent rebounder uses his long arms and shear quickness to out hustle opposing players under the boards this is one of the reasons why he is especially good at offensive boards ... Gets the majority of his points on dunks, and put-backs … Simply dominating on the inside although it's not because of his strength but his lateral quickness, this makes it very hard for defenders to get a feel for him defensively ... Has a strong NBA ready body, because of this he can finish most plays after contact occurs; he is also good at drawing enough contact to get to the free throw line … Has shown the leaping ability and lateral quickness to be an effective NBA shot-blocker, and has already become a good enough defender in high school to make opposing players change there shots … Tough minded has supreme confidence in his ability’s feels that he is the best, has overcome a lot of off the court problems, will not fold under pressure … Has started to get a nice consistent turnaround jump shot in the post … Greatly improved his face up game and ball handling as he can now step 15 feet from the basket and drive in the lane or shot the mid-range jumper from 15 feet and in … Has a great feel for opposing defense’s seems to feel when a double team is about to occur and will usually look for a open teammate to pass too …

Weakness: While he has overcome a lot of off the court problems, like his high school transcripts, transferring through 6 schools to become eligible, and his parents (mother was in jail & father has passed away) Stoudemire has been amazing on how he has handled it, but NBA teams will look deeply at these issues to see if he is solid and mature … Due to him being such a high-energy player he must learn how to pace himself during a game, because he has a tendency to pick up bad fouls by being overaggressive on defense … Why he has the ability to draw fouls and get to the line his free throw shooting prevents him from taking full advantage of this … Must be better disciplined offensively not because he throws up bad shots but at times tends to go for the spectacular play rather than going for a basic basket … While he has improved his perimeter game his jumper still remains streaky; so getting that more consistent would be of great benefit … Post moves could stand to be refined; although by no means is he lacking; it’s just that his post footwork needs a touch up and offensively he could use some variety … Although he has a manly body adding 10-15 pounds would ensure that he wouldn't get pushed off the blocks against the bigger players of the NBA ...

david-andersen 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review atlanta 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2002 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Decently athletic player who runs the floor well and is extremely mobile … Offensively he has wonderful touch around the basket and shows the ability to shoot 16 feet from the perimeter … Has a great understanding of where he is in relation to the basket this is why he is a threat to score on his turnaround jumper … Smart player who makes solid decisions on the court … Resourceful around the basket where he uses his long arms and quickness to gain easy scoring opportunities … Has the court vision to be an above average passer … Decent rebounder who should get better with added upper body strength and improved technique … When facing an opponent on offense Anderson has enough ball handling to drive past his defender … Possess solid low post footwork making it easy for him to execute his offense smoothly … Patient on offense as he doesn’t force or rush many shots …

Weakness: Confidence has a tendency to wavier although to his credit this has been less of a issue … Offensively Anderson’s back to the basket skills are still in need of refinement and variety … Lacks the necessary upper body strength to hold his position on the blocks … Skill wise Anderson really hasn’t advanced as much as predicted which has lead some to believe that he is nearing his potential and could be a finished product … Physical defenders seem to give him trouble which sometimes leads him to shy away from contact … Could stand to add 15-20 pounds of muscle which would really benefit him in the post … Defensively he isn’t a super shot-blocker as he doesn’t have the leaping quickness needed to have a impact … Not a consistent shooter from the perimeter as his jumper can be streaky … Needs to work on his rebounding fundamentals such as boxing out but to his credit this will be less of a issue when he adds more upper body strength … Perimeter defense could stand some improvement …

chris-wilcox 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review clippers 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2002 Scouting Report:

Strengths: The main thing that jumps out about Wilcox is his explosive leaping ability … If he gets the ball anywhere in the paint he is a threat to finish with a thundering dunk … At this point his post skills mainly consist of a quick spin move and a short turnaround hook shot which he can make on either side of the post … Good shot blocker who has the ability to get even better thanks to his timing, long arms, and explosive hops … Runs down the court like a gazelle and can finish in transition with a exciting dunk … Attacks the glass when rebounding and has the athleticism to grab boards out of his position … Owns a excellent pair of soft hands which rarely bobble passes when receiving the ball in the post … Will be a highly sought after commodity as he has loads of untapped potential and explosive athleticism … Great interior passer who has some solid court vision … Does a great job of keeping the ball up high on put-backs …

Weakness: Offensively Wilcox is still pretty raw in that he lacks an assortment of post moves … From a fundamental standpoint he is still learning the little things of the game … Like many young players he is in need of developing better consistency on a night in night out basis … Has a bad habit of playing overaggressive on defense which can lead him to pick up quick fouls … Perimeter defense isn’t all that great as some players can beat him off the dribble … Upper body strength is still not up to NBA standards which is one of the reasons why he could struggle early when guarding stronger post players … Ball handling is a area of concern often Wilcox would just catch and dunk the ball in the NBA these opportunities won’t be as easy … While he has shown the ability to hit the perimeter jumper from 15 feet rarely has he shot it with regularity so gaining confidence and consistency from the perimeter would be of great benefit … Though he has shown the ability to draw fouls in the lane his poor free throw shooting rarely allows him to take full advantage of the opportunity …

nene-hilario 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review new-york 2002 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2002 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Very athletic player who can jump out the gym and run the floor faster than most guards ... Offensively Hilário is very explosive around the basket as he is a threat for the power dunk ... Defensively he is a terrific shot-blocker capable of redirecting shots and has all the physical tools to be efficient in the NBA such as timing, leaping ability, long arms, and quickness ... A natural rebounder who is a extremely aggressive on the boards ... Due to his mobility and descent ball handling he has the ability to drive in the lane when getting the ball on the high post ... Extremely coordinated in his movements everything looks as though it comes so simple to him ... Due to his young age (19) he has loads of potential something that will work to his advantage on draft day ... Defensively he is blessed with great lateral quickness and quick hands ... Understands what his limits are offensively and rarely shoots shots that are out of his range ... Wonderful offensive rebounder gets a lot of his points on put-backs as he is extremely swift around the basket ... Has a NBA ready body that allows him to play his physical style of ball ...

Weakness: Doesn’t always dominate games like he has the talent to do, as he seems to defer to teammates ... Like many young players he has yet to develop night in night out consistency ... post moves could stand to be refined as he relies on his face-up game to score ... Poor free throw shooter although once he gets into a rhythm he can make them ... Not very confident when shooting from mid-range as his shooting isn’t the best so working on extending his range is a must ... Defensively he needs to learn how to play better perimeter defense as he counts on his shot-blocking ability too much ... Post footwork is still a work in progress as it remains choppy at best ... Wouldn’t hurt if he gained 10 more pounds as the NBA will be a little more physically demanding than the Brazilian leagues ... Double teams can trouble him as he doesn’t always react fast enough ... Below average passer in the post but to his credit Hilário has improved during this past season ...
