2003 NBA Draft

chris-bosh 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review toronto 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: For his size he is able to run the floor with great speed ... Shows a very soft touch on jump hooks and lay-in's ... Possess great foot speed and lateral quickness to maneuver around the lane ... Possess all the natural instincts to be a shot blocker... Has a nice 10 foot turnaround jumper he can make despite heavy defensive pressure ... When posting up Bosh does a great job of getting himself wide in the post... Can take his defender 17 feet out and sink the mid-range jumper... Not a bad 3-po/nt shooter for his size... Keeps ball high when receiving it in the post... Finishes extremely well around the basket where he can dunk with flair... Smart kid who looks to have a great handle on the fundamental aspects of basket... For his age he shows great timing on his blocks as he doesn't bite on a lot of pump fakes ... Owns a pair of soft hands that allow him to catch most passes thrown into the post with ease ... His athleticism and agility enable him to make some very difficult shots around the basket... Mobility allows for him to be a great help defender if one of his teammates get beat... Not a bad ball handler for his size and position ... Does a good job of kicking the ball back out when the defense collapses...

Weakness: Needs to concentrate on gaining more weight and upper body strength ... Because of his lack of upper body strength Bosh tends to get pushed off the blocks ... Shot selection is solid but he is still figuring out what his strengths are offensively ... Back to the basket skills are in the developmental stages ... Can sometimes rush himself in the execution of his offense ... Like most young players he still has a tendency to put the ball on the floor after receiving it in the low post... Should work on keeping the ball high to limit turnovers caused by guards doubling down ... Struggles at times to consistently make the mid-range jumper... Ball handling and better ball protection need to be worked on as he can be a little turnover prone ... Doesn't always create enough contact in the post to draw fouls ... Needs to be better conditioned this would greatly improve his stamina ...Has some problems finishing after contact occurs ... Gets out of rebounding position at times due to his habit of trying to block every shot... Can coast through games rarely showing intensity or mental focus ... Post footwork is still a work in progress as he can move a little awkward at times ...

jerome-beasley 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review miami 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Does a great job on establishing position on the blocks ... Owns a nice turnaround jumper that he can make from 10-14 feet out with regularity ... Shows above average post footwork when maneuvering around the lane ... Mobile player able to run the court with some speed ... When receiving the ball in the post he uses a quick spin move to gain separation for the dunk or lay-up ... Has extremely soft touch around the basket... Solid finisher who understands how to use his body to shield off defenders ... Emotional player who plays the game with enthusiasm ... Doesn't need much time to execute his offense from the perimeter... Has shown the ability to catch and shoot from 18 feet... With his soft hands and ability to keep his body wide in the post he is able to catch most passes ... Makes great use of the glass when facing the basket... Has 3-point range on his jumper... Defensively Beasley shows above average lateral movement... Shows a solid hook shot when he turns into the lane ...

Weakness: Has to work on his rebounding fundamentals such as boxing out better under the basket... Could stand to tone his body which looks as though he is carrying a little baby fat... Not an extreme athlete by any means as he has average quickness and leaping ability ... Back to the basket moves are in need of improvement like a drop step and an up and under... Settles to shoot from the perimeter a little too much instead of backing defenders down in the low post... Defensively his post defense will need to be improved ... Lacks the leaping ability to be a shot blocker at the NBA level... Not a great rebounder when it comes to rebounding out of position ... Level of competition will raise some concerns with NBA GM's as he hasn't played against great big men ... Shot selection can be inconsistent at times ... While not a bona fide tweener Beasley is still figuring out what position will maximize his skill Is ...

carmelo-anthony 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review denver93-03 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Fluid player who shows great athleticism despite not having overly explosive leaping ability ... Possesses a quick first step which helps him gain separation from his defender to set-up his drive to the basket... Excellent slasher, once he gets to the basket he has the creativity to make spectacular plays due to his cat like body control... Solid rebounder thanks to his long arms and hustle ... Has range on his jump shot as he can shoot from mid-range or behind the 3-point line ... Has a innate feel for the game that most players have to develop ... Has the dribbling ability to breakdown most defenders on the perimeter... Worked hard over the past two years to develop his upper body strength which shows his commitment to making himself better... When leading or trailing the break Anthony is a excellent finisher in transition ... Has started to refine his low post moves ... Seems to show a knack for drawing fouls on his forays to the basket... Has the tools to be a solid passer due to his ability to see the floor...

Weakness: Defensively he needs to improve on his perimeter defense such as lateral quickness and footwork ... Anthony at times can be such an dominate scorer that he can freeze teammates out of a game ... So getting his teammates involved in the offense should be worked on ... Shot selection can improve. Like most young players he has a tendency to throw up questionable attempts ... Still learning how to mix up his game offensively as too often he can settle for the jumper instead of driving into the lane ... Ball handling is adequate but his ball protection will need a slight upgrade as turnovers can trouble him ... Mid range shooting can go through periods of inconsistency... Must improve his decision making on the court as he can get a little to flashy for his own good ... Although he has shot the ball well from behind the 3-point line he still needs to work on his jumper... Still improving his decision making on the court but with added experience that should become less of an issue ...

jason-kapono 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review cleveland94-04 2003 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Intelligent basketball player who has a great understanding of the ins and outs of the game from a fundamental standpoint... Decent ball handler who has no problem leading the break ... One of the best shooters in the entire country. He can spot up behind the 3-point line or hit the mid-range shot with a pull-up jumper... Good passer who is blessed with solid court vision ... Does a really good job at hitting the open jump shot from the perimeter when his feet are set... Moves well without the ball and most importantly knows how to utilize screens to get open looks ... Has become better at creating scoring opportunities for himself and no longer has to rely on a setup man... Excellent free throw shooter capable of making high pressure free throws...

Weakness: Defensively he will have trouble guarding the athletic players in the NBA due to his average athleticism and lack of lateral quickness ... Needs to work on better ball protection as he can be turnover prone at times ... Doesn't have the best upper body strength although this is certainly improving ... Not much of a leaper which can work against him in the area of rebounding ... Defensive instincts need to be learned such as anticipation, and defensive footwork although to his credit this has improved ... Sometimes he focuses solely on scoring instead of setting up his teammates ... Doesn't drive to the basket all that much as he has problems gaining separation from his defender...
